Stockpiling is a common method of manure storage on feedlot operations. In cattle pens, manure is often times gathered in the center of the pen in for storage until the cattle are removed from the pen and it can be removed. The manure is either loosely piled (a stockpile), or is compressed into a mound. We wanted to see if there was any difference in ammonia emissions from mounded vs. stockpiled manure in cattle pens.
